Mission E.P. is the latest/debut release from Sheffield based Fantom48. Layering carefully crafted beats under chilled out vocals which are reminiscent of Ian Brown’s melodic spoken word style. The E.P. is full of trip hop inflections and solid bass lines and the group wear their influences on their sleeve confidently knitting together a love of breaks, house, funk and dub.

Opening track and title song Mission features the voice of Open Mic UK finalist Rosie Shann, accompanied by flamenco styled guitars topped over the group’s standardly funky beats. The percussion heavy Walk This Street starts of as a classic breaks track, sounding not too dissimilar to something sampled from the golden age of hip hop and making it ideal night or day.

For fans of laid back, groove driven pop with a distinctively British edge.
